You just arrived in Lyon and you’re looking for a bike?
Well… You’ll leave in 6 months or 1 year so you will not necessarily need to buy a brand new bike. But how can you do then?
You can ask Cyclists Associations like Pignon sur Rue, which organise trading events. The shops Decathlon also organise other events called “Trocathlon” where you can find second hand bikes. You can also visit the website Le Bon Coin, which is a site where people can sell their bikes.
You can also ask for advices to association of bikes repairers, for example La Clavette, le cyclub or le Recycleur who can help you find your bike but also repair it if you have any problem with it during the year.
What do you need to know if you have a bike in Lyon
First of all : safety. Start to check the differences between the reglementation of your country of origin and the french reglementation (in France, we drive on the right side of the road). For more security we suggest you to wear a nightlife reflective jacket and/or reflective velcro tape that you will find in any sport shops. The helmet is not obligatory but highly recommended in Lyon.
We also recommend you to buy a big locker and eventually safety bolt for your bike seat. The associations mentioned above can mark your bike, in that case it will be easier to find it in case of robbery. You can find more informations here.
Why biking in Lyon?
Because there is more than 600 kilometers of bicycle path (there will be 1000 in 2020) and it is so enjoyable to ride along the river bank with a nice weather, it will be sad not to enjoy that right?
Thanks to Pignon sur Rue and Anne, Maïté and Max from Générations Cobayes for these pieces of advice
